Hey !
I am Mitakshara :)
I am a London-based interdisciplinary artist exploring materials like glass and ceramics offering a unique blend of art services and architectural products.
I enjoy the multiple ways of seeing spaces and translating them into tactile materialised craft, to think about the relationship between physical reality and subjective perception of past, present and the future slowly moving towards what we PERCEIVE, CONCEIVE AND LIVE today.
The name 'Mitakshara' combines two words: 'mita', meaning measured, brief and concise, and 'akshara', meaning a syllable referring to 'concise expression' or 'measured words' - brief but meaningful. This idea of clear, precise communication not only inspires the name but also reflects my work, which is focused on creating pieces that are both simple and perfectly crafted, expressing impact and beauty through thoughtful restraint.
I create functional and decorative sculptural vessels, glass wares and lighting that celebrate tactile process and the sensory experience of craft. My practice engages with the boundaries between form and space, evolving through collaboration, hands-on making, and experimental techniques.
With a Master’s degree in Ceramics & Glass from the Royal College of Art, London and a professional background in Architecture, I try to bridge the world of contemporary art with various craftsmanships.
As an artist, I create unique works using a diverse range of techniques, materials, and designing artwork. My work usually begins with developing ideas through sketches, selecting the materials I want to work with and then building up each piece through hands on techniques like sculpting, moulding hot glass and lamp working.
I regularly collaborate with artists, furniture designers, galleries, art magazines, and I enjoy creating my very own and commissioned pieces, as well as working directly with artists. Through my practice, I aim to bring creative thoughts and craftsmanship together, offering expressive, handcrafted art that connects with people and spaces in meaningful ways.
Alongside teaching ceramics and pottery, I assist other makers, glass artists and furniture designers across UK on their projects.
